Description

ACSS/AW-TW conductors utilize trapezoidal aluminium wires wounded around a steel core made up of aluminium-clad steel wires. The combination of trapezoidal aluminium wires and aluminium-clad steel core enhances the electrical properties of this type of ACSS conductor compared to conventional ACSS conductors.

Trapezoidal aluminium wires make it possible to use more aluminium without increasing the overall diameter of the conductor. This will lead to enhanced electrical conductivity which makes it possible to transmit more electrical current compared to the same conductor with round wires.

Aluminium-clad steel wires used in the core of ACSS/AW-TW conductors strongly improve their resistance against corrosion, especially in polluted areas and coastal regions. The AW steel wires exhibit reduced electrical resistivity. The electrical resistance of AW wires is about 5% lower than galvanized (GA) wires which also reduces the transmission line's loss.

The ACSS/AW-TW overhead conductors exhibit the most improved electrical and mechanical properties among all types of ACSS conductors.
